Getting Ready for the Treadmill Desk
Since my new treadmill desk won't have drawers I decided to make room in my office closet for the items in my current desk's drawers. The end result is a complete reorganization of all the closets in my house. I bought a shelving unit at Lowe's that was super easy to put together (it's the smaller burgundy/black unit below.) It didn't require tools at all and only took about 5 minutes. I think it looks pretty good. I also got some baskets so I could put my office junk in there and things wouldn't look so cluttered.
Here's a picture where you can see part of the closet. It feels great to have everything organized. I hope it stays that way.

So, have you started getting *you* ready for the treadmill desk? I'm further away from getting mine than you are but I've set up a standing desk (actually a storage box on top of the dining room table) at which to work to get used to being on my feet all of the time. The first couple of days were a bit rough but it's now been over a week and it's become completely natural. Unfortunately the storage box isn't wide enough to allow me to have my notepad up here so I take the opportunity to sit if I have to do some figuring by hand (not often.)

Ooh. I didn't even think of that. I just figured I would hop on and go. I don't see myself as out of shape but the scale would disagree. One comment I read while I was doing research was from a person who said they did it a couple of hours at a time and then built up. Maybe I will do that.
Are you able to stand up for 8 hours at a time at your table now?
I have thought about what shoes I will wear. I usually wear sandals but I want to make sure that I have a good pair of shoes. I have a couple of pairs of tennis shoes and I'm trying to figure out which are better for this - whether to go with a 'walking' shoe or a 'running' shoe. What kind do you wear?

Yep, 8+ hours actually as I also stand while surfing before and after work.
At the moment I'm spending part of my time barefoot and part in a pair of New Balance running shoes - but one without a wide heel. It struck me the other day that if, as the people who are pushing these treadmills claim, we're designed to walk then we're designed to walk barefoot....

Sorry for the delay Ken. I think I missed this comment. I'm not sure if I would risk my feet on the claims of the people pushing the treadmills. I would be worried that over time the lack of arch support might end up hurting your feet. Then you would be in trouble. My take on it anyway.

After about 6 hours of standing on the treadmill today (not walking unfortunately, just standing) I think being barefoot would really hurt after a while. I was in sandals today with a fairly thick rubber sole and my feet are hurting a bit. With no padding on the treadmill I can't imagine being barefoot on it for long.
